One Last Breath Before the Sea

The Carrefour des Solidarités is a network of associations involved in social action and of communal social action centres. They work for the people living in highly precarious situations.

Grande-Synthe is a French commune located in the Hauts-de-France region. Grande-Synthe is the main town on the outskirts of Dunkirk, and is home to a part of the port.

On 5 November 2002, the French government ordered the closure of the Red Cross centre in Sangatte, which was hosting migrants in the Calais area. Most of them were thrown out onto the streets at the beginning of winter.

Volunteers  got together to organise food and clothing distributions and then  decided to founding the SALAM.

Their motto is let’s support, help, fight for and act for migrants.

A network of artists and activists which propose activities for children and adults in the la Linière camp in Grande Synthe and about migration in general.

Created in 1983, the ADRA, Association Dunkerquoise Active Retirement has the following objectives:

1/ To bring together retired and pre-retired people in order to develop social bonds 

2/ To bring people together for leisure, sporting and cultural activities.

3/ To act as a link between associations needing volunteers and ADRA members, who have different skills and free time.

4/ To defend the common interests of the members of the association.

The association currently has around 1000 members and around thirty different activities.
