Date: 29 Jul 2021
In the ancient city of Tarsus, the local community will create a gift for Amal to take from St Paul’s birthplace all the way to St Paul’s Cathedral in London in the United Kingdom.
This Act of Welcome inspires Amal not to give up, even though the journey ahead is long and arduous. She promises her new friends that she will reach London to deliver their gift.
With a history going back over 6,000 years, Tarsus has long been an important stop for traders and a focal point of many civilizations. During the Roman Empire, Tarsus was the capital of the province of Cilicia. It was the scene of the first meeting between Mark Antony and Cleopatra, and the birthplace of “Saul of Tarsus” who became Saint Paul the Apostle.
“So, then, let us pursue the things making for peace and the things that are upbuilding to one another.”
– Saint Paul the Apostle
