Path of Hope
Date: 27 Jul 2021
Little Amal arrives from the fields. The city is dark and she is afraid, but slowly, one lantern at a time, a path of hope lights up ahead and she finds her way through the unfamiliar streets.
In this participatory public art event, Little Amal ventures through the city of Gaziantep, where the young refugee is welcomed by a brilliant display of traditional lanterns lit up by the local community. These lanterns echo the Islamic traditions of Qanadil lamps hung in mosques, and the Fanous lanterns that fill the streets during Ramadan.
For our giant heroine, this path of light is also a symbolic overture to the corridor of hope she will trailblaze across Europe over the next few months.
